Are you easily distracted?
Posted by: | CommentsDistraction. Wow! This one messes everyone up including me. It is a daily challenge to stay sharp and focused on the CRTITICAL actions that will drive our businesses and our lives. Parents especially can relate to what I am talking about…an email from your child’s school saying their lunch account needs replenishing and BAM! Off you go refilling balances instead of making the sales call that can significantly add to your bottom line.
I realize lunch balances must be refilled but let’s strive on a moment by moment basis to really make that effort to do the critical action FIRST. You can refill the account after hours. First things first.
I have a confession to make…as I am typing this I remembered I forgot to include one of my son’s friends on his birthday Evite (yes, this is what I resort to these days…birthday Evites! lol). I stopped typing and picked up the school phone book to call this family. I stopped myself. This too can wait. I am going to look in the mirror and repeat “Focus, Focus, Focus” as my punishment!
At my live event this week one of the presenters pointed out the power of being held accountable. A coach will do this. It’s far too easy to let life’s day to day make you fall short of your potential. Your dreams are important! Fight the current. Hire a coach. If you need help finding one email me. I know several great ones.
Watch this quick video and see if you can relate:

Wisdom from a Cheshire cat
Posted by: | CommentsAlice in Wonderland asked the Cheshire cat “Do I go left or right?” when confronted with a fork in the road she was unfamiliar with. The big, smiling cat asked a poignant question back, “Where are you going?” Alice replies, “I don’t know.” The cat answers in return, “Well, then take either road.”
If you don’t know where you are going then how will you know when you get there? You will get more out of your life if you set some expectations for yourself. What is your goal for today? This week? This month? This year? In the next five years? Twenty years? You can astound yourself if you just get clear on what it is that is most important to you.

ASK for what you want in life!
Posted by: | CommentsHow are you going to get where you want to be if you aren’t brave enough to ask for what you want? It’s really that simple. Chicken feathers get you no where. You have to be willing to stick your neck out.
I am friends with Carla Bernberg of MizFitOnline. During a conversation we had recently she told me she had interviewed Tony Hsieh. I say, “THE Tony Hsieh? The CEO of Zappos??” She said “Yes, I was curious about his work outs.”
Tony is an amazing business man and all around popular guy in the media. I watched him recently on “The Apprentice-Celebrity Addition”. Donald Trump and Oprah are the circles he runs in. Did this stop my fab friend, Carla? No! It did not. She twittered him to see if he’d be open to it and guess what, he was! (Side note, get on Twitter if you aren’t already. It’s fun and amazing relationships can develop. @millionairemoms, @mizfitonline, @zappos are our names online).
He’s cool, she’s cool. Wow, aren’t they great examples of what is possible if we only try? Carla is a great role model not only for health & fitness but in believing enough in herself to go for what interests her.
Without further ado, here is Carla’s interview with the mighty Tony Hsieh.
Fitness Q&A with Zappos CEO: Tony Hsieh
By MizFit | February 17, 2009
(This post is kind of an outgrowth of our discussion about doing one thing which scares or challenges you every single day. Sure, Tony could have said no—but I wouldn’t have known unless I asked.)
To know me is to know that I adore workout shoes. Workout clothes. Harvey’s seatbelt bags.
To know me is to also know that, outside of the realm of fitness, I lack any kind of patience.
In summation, up in here, shopping: thy name is Zappos.
(I’ll spare you the love rant. If you’re sitting there thinking: What’s Zappos? please to know I’m gasping in shock and hit me up in the comments.)
One morning I turned on my TiVo’d Oprah & watched her interview Tony Hsieh the CEO of (the eight hundred million dollar company) Zappos.
Tony chatted with The Great & Mighty about how Zappos strives to be team & family focused.
He shared with Oprah that, even as CEO, he goes to work & sits in a cubicle so that he will be seen available (which he is) & part of the team (which, as fellow cube-dweller, he certainly is).
The impression I as viewer left with was what an amazing company Zappos is, how real Tony is, & how freakin busy he must be and that he is younger than I am. Great googly moogle what am I doing with my life?!
Being the MizFit I am, this all made me curious about what Tony’s lifelife is like.
Does he work out? Does he make time for the gym? What are his eating habits like? And where on earth does he find the time?
The rest, as they say, is Fitness Q&A with Tony Hsieh History.
Do you currently have a fitness routine? When I saw you on Oprah and you looked fit & trim (lean & mean? take yer pick.). Have you always been that way? Have you ever struggled with your weight?
I don’t have a fitness routine unless I’m training for something such as a marathon or big hike. I’ve always been that way — it’s hard for me to be motivated fitness-wise unless there’s a goal I’m working towards. My weight has ranged from about 140 to 180 (I’m 5′9″)
I know how old you are but wont spread the word. Let’s just say you’re younger than I am now and older than I was when I graduated from my masters program. Do you find it more difficult to stay fit as you age? Are you one of the lucky ones who has a fast metabolism?
I’m 35 now, and I’ve definitely noticed my metabolism slowing down over the past 5 years. I used to be able to eat whatever junk food I wanted and not gain weight. I’m much more careful watching what I eat now.
The Bumbling Band is painfully aware I worship at the altar of Zappos.com. I cant imagine how you run the company, attend to all your other commitments & appearances and still make time to be healthy. Is it a challenge or just part of your routine?
It’s pretty difficult to get into a regular routine. Instead, I try to walk whenever possible. For example, go up the stairs instead of taking the escalator, or park my car further away than it needs to be wherever I’m going.
In my opinion 80% of fitness is made in the kitchen. It’s pretty simple to undo even the best laid fitness routines with a few bad food choices made repeatedly. Do you find that it takes effort to eat healthy? If you do — what keeps you motivated?
I generally try to eat healthy, but it doesn’t take a huge amount of effort or extra time. I’m just more careful about what I order at restaurants.
I have to ask: do you really go to the office most days and work? If you do, what are your go to snacks during the day? Be honest. Ill start us off: some days I join my Toddler Tornado in her potty training I! GET! A! GUMMY BEAR! treat. Now you.
Unless I’m traveling, I’m in the office most days. For snacks, I eat peanuts and soup. I’ve never really been a big dessert or sweets person, so that hasn’t been an issue for me.
Lastly, I always ask my interviews the same closing question: When your life is made into a movie what actor will we see playing Tony Hsieh?
I’ve been told by some people that I look like an Asian version of Cuba Gooding Jr. So maybe him.
There you go, People.
Not only does he run an 800 million dollar company but he, like the Bumbling Band works to find exercise in unexpected places.
(please to insert joke here about US Magazine’s Stars, They’re Just Like US! feature)
And (you knew this was coming) if he can do it—-we can surely do it.
Make time to workout.
Get our collective asses glutes on to Oprah.
Whatever IT you choose to address today.
Thanks Tony for giving the Bumbling Band a glimpse into a part of your life people don’t normally see.
(wanna thank Tony yourself? On twitter? let him know. he’s @zappos)
Worrying is Praying For What You Don’t Want To Happen
Posted by: | CommentsI use this line on my husband a lot. He is a worrier. I tweeted this tonight (for the uninitiated that’s what you do on the social network “Twitter”). It was on my mind because I was reflecting on how it resonated with the entrepreneurial women in attendance for a speech I gave at the Cobb Galleria “Work From Home” summit on overcoming fear.
We worry when we are fearful. In this economic climate even those who have never experienced economic uncertainty are finding themselves in a position to worry. I grew up in a family where money was scarce and always an issue. As a young child I was well versed on economic uncertainty.
Maybe that’s why I say this phrase to my husband? I’ve “been there done that”. When I was young I worried but intuitively realized it was useless. The point was driven home in of all places at confession in church. I was laying out my numerous sins to the Priest full of worry and remorse when he said to me, “Young lady, you are much too earnest. You need to lighten up.” All of a sudden I realized, “He’s right. I’m over thinking this.” From that day on I decided I would always look on the bright side and walk with purpose. In good times and in bad, I could always chose my reaction.
I’ve been tried, often times severely, along the way but I’m happy I made that decision. Frankly, there is very little we can control other than our thoughts. Our thoughts lead to our reality so chose them carefully.
I’ve grown a thick skin. I’ve seen tough times and I’ve survived and thrived. I’ve taken every negative in my life and work hardened it into something positive.
The fact I grew up financially poor and gone on to success makes walking your entrepreneurial path with you so meaningful to me. I’ve experienced the lowest of lows to the highest of high’s.
To be able to share in your journey and watch as your vision becomes reality thrills me beyond words. When I get a phone call or an email from a member who is celebrating a success, I truly celebrate with her as if it were my own!
Worry is fear plain and simple. The only way to power through fear is by taking action. If you are worried, sit down and write down the problem. Next, strategize by writing down solutions or actions you can take to change things. Specific, measurable goals will help you work yourself through your worry.
Here is a suggestion I know will help you. Create a small mastermind group in your community to meet and support one another on an ongoing basis. You would be amazed at how much better you will feel having someone to share your high’s and low’s with. These friends can help you brainstorm solutions.
Of course, that is what millionairemoms.com is all about—supporting you in your quest and helping you overcome fears by being in community with network of entrepreneurial women. We invite you to join us!
